Approximately 71, 400 cases of lymphoma [including non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL) and Hodgkin’s disease] will be diagnosed in the United States annually. NHL is a heterogenous disease with many subtypes, treatment of newly diagnosed patients consists of combination chemotherapy often in conjunction with a monoclonal antibody. Although many patients respond to treatment, many eventually relapse and require subsequent treatment.

Proteolix is currently testing carfilzomib (PR-171), a new proteasome inhibitor in patients with lymphoma and other chronic lymphoid malignancies in a Phase 1 trial. The phase 1 trial is a dose escalation study in patients with relapsed or refractory disease. This clinical study is assessing the safety and toxicity of the maximum tolerated dose of carfilzomib administered intravenously in multiple disease subtypes including: B cell lymphomas, T cell lymphomas, Waldenstrom’s macroglobinemia, chronic lymphocytic leukemia/small lymphocytic lymphoma, and Hodgkin’s disease.
